Why St. Patrick’s Day is the Most Underrated Holiday

St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday that celebrates the life of patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. It is celebrated on March 17th with lots of green and shamrocks! Everyone’s favorite holiday is either Christmas, Halloween, or even Independence Day. But, I think St. Patrick’s Day is the most underrated holiday!

Firstly, there’s green all around you! The color green embodies the peaceful, calming, and balanced qualities of nature. A study from the University of Michigan found that interacting with nature, or even looking at images of greenery, can enhance cognitive performance and attention span. This shows that the color green provides a positive effect on humans. This is also why green is my favorite color!

Secondly, St. Patrick’s Day has the best traditions. Did you know that the first St. Patrick’s Day Parade was held in New York City. not Ireland! These parades are celebrated with lively music, Irish dancers, and floats. The city of Chicago not only hosts extravagant parades, they also dye their river green using an eco-friendly dye. This draws in thousands of spectators even though the dye only lasts a couple hours. How exciting!

Lastly, the symbols and folklore associated with St. Patrick’s Day are super interesting! You always see shamrocks during the holiday but are you aware of their significance? According to legend, shamrocks are worn as tribute to St. Patrick who used them to explain the Holy Trinity. Leprechauns are also seen during this time. Leprechauns are mischievous little creatures. They usually aren’t considered evil, just troublemakers who like to play tricks.

St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday filled with vibrant traditions and tales. From huge parades to tiny shamrocks, there is so much to appreciate about this unique day. This day brings an underrated blend of history, culture, and fun that deserves more recognition. There’s no denying that St. Patrick’s Day is a celebration worth embracing!
