“Grease” celebrates our summer nights as the one that we want as the 28th Warrick County Summer Musical July 11-14, 2024
Rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong! The Warrick County Summer Musical travels back to 1959 for a weekend of summer lovin’ as the Warrick County School Corporation and Warrick Public Education Foundation present “Grease” at Castle High School from July 11 through July 14. Auditions will be held in April for all local students in grades 8 through 12 during the 2023-2024 school year. Call backs will be at Castle High School.
This rock ‘n’ roll musical celebrates high school life in the 1950s like none other. “Grease” features song favorites such as “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin’,” “We Go Together,” and the Academy Award-nominated song “Hopelessly Devoted to You.” In addition, two No. 1 hits on the Billboard Top 100 list “Grease” and “You’re the One That I Want” have made “Grease” one of the most popular musicals of all time.
According to director and Castle High School drama teacher Eric Antey, the students have had this at the top of their list for years.
“We kept hearing from the kids that they wanted ‘Grease’ and we just needed it to be the right time,” Antey said. “After such a successful run of ‘Mamma Mia!’ last year, this year we said ‘Grease’ is the one that we want.”
Grease originated in Chicago more than 50 years ago in 1971 before transferring to Broadway a year later. Receiving seven Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, the production played almost 4,000 performances. That popularity led to the 1978 blockbuster film adaptation starring John Travolta and the late Olivia Newton-John.
All audition materials will be available by February 1 on the Summer Musical Google Classroom using the join code: 4e2tw4h. Students currently in grades 8-12 can join the Google Classroom at any time using a personal email address (not school corporation provided). Registration forms are due Sunday, April 14 by 9:00. Auditions will be in person at Castle High School Monday, April 15 and Wednesday, April 17 from 5:00-7:30. Callbacks will be on Thursday, April 18 starting at 5 p.m.
Ticket information and additional on-sale information will be provided in June, approximately one month prior to the show. Additional sponsors are needed to produce this show.
