Simons Foundation Grant Gives Lift to cMoe’s Totality Initiative
The Koch Family Children’s Museum of Evansville (cMoe) launches Countdown to Totality, a month-long line-up of science-focused events and celestial experiences hosted at the museum to prepare families for the highly anticipated total solar eclipse, a once-in-a-lifetime occasion happening over Evansville on April 8, 2024.
“We have a galaxy of exciting activities planned to help children understand, appreciate and have fun learning about awe-inspiring science and how our solar system works,” said Nathan Haddix, cMoe’s Interim Executive Director. “Evansville is a designated city to witness the total solar eclipse, and cMoe is our community’s command center for kids and families.”
Countdown to Totality kicks off on March 5 and runs through April 7. From the moment guests arrive, they can explore new frontiers, starting with the museum’s brand new Star Dome where kids can gaze up at stars, moon and planets. Throughout the month, there will be themed programming, pop-up activities, science experiments and special guests. Here are just a few stars coming out to celebrate the Totality with cMoe:
· NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador and ASP/NSF Eclipse Star Educator Mandy Scurry dives deep into the history of a total eclipse and what it has taught us about our world
· Local storyteller Susan Fowler shares eclipse-related stories expressed through crafts, songs, sign language and smiles
· Mr. Science (Jason Lindsey) from Hooked on Science, provides a big sky view of what happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth to create a total eclipse.
