The Evansville Fire Department provides fire protection for residents of the City of Evansville from fire stations strategically located throughout the City. Firefighters work 10-11 24-hour shifts per month at the fire station on one of three platoons or shifts. This ensures that the citizens of Evansville are protected 24 hours/day, 365 days/year.
The Evansville Fire Department consists of professional firefighters committed to providing the following services:
• Fire Suppression • Emergency Medical Response • Automobile Extrication • Hazardous Materials Response • Rope Rescue • Confined Space Rescue • Water/Dive Rescue • Fire/Arson Investigation • Building Inspection • Public Fire Education
Applications are accepted every two years on the odd year. Applicants then must successfully complete the EFD Fire Merit Board examination process and the Indiana Public Employee Retirement Fund (PERF) physical and mental health examinations.
Requirements for Application:
• U.S. Citizenship • High School Diploma or equivalent • 21 when the list is certified to 35 years of age (must be employed by EFD before 36) • Valid driver license • No felony convictions • Good moral character Fire Merit Board Examination Process: • Pass Written Test • Take Oral Examination • Pass Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Indiana Public Employee Retirement Fund (PERF) Examination Process: • Pass Medical Physical • Pass Psychological Examination
