Evansville Musuem Host Upcoming Geek Con

    This year’s guests of honor include John K. Snyder III.

    On Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 11 am to 5 pm, the Evansville Museum will host the eighth annual Geek Con. The Evansville Museum Geek Con is a day devoted to celebrating the arts, science and history of geek culture. The event will feature panels and presentations, hands-on activities, board games, a vendor room and a cosplay contest. This family-friendly event is perfect for comic enthusiasts as well as first-timers to the
    convention scene.

    Geek Con is presented in partnership with Donate Life Indiana and Ciholas Inc. The family- friendly event will be $12 for adults, $8 for youth and FREE for Museum Members. Tickets can be purchased at the door. The first 150 guests will receive a free swag bag, sponsored by Ciholas Inc.

    This year’s guests of honor include John K. Snyder III. Snyder is an illustrator and writer of comic books and graphic novels and is also the creator of the independent comic series Fashion in Action. Snyder has worked for DC Comics (Suicide Squad, Green Lantern, Doctor Mid-Nite)
    and created poster and illustration work for Marvel Comics. He is the writer/adapter and artist of the graphic novel adaptation of Grand Master Mystery writer Lawrence Block's classic novel Eight Million Ways To Die, featuring detective Matthew Scudder (IDW). Snyder's
    work has also been published in the pages of the underground press, most notably The Duckberg Times, and by independent comic book publishers, including Matt Wagner's Grendel for Dark Horse Comics. Recent work includes illustrations for Dashiell Hammett's Continental Op, published by Clover Press. Forthcoming work includes collaborations with writers Nancy Holder and Alan Philipson on the 1970's vampire crime series They Call Me Midnight for IPI Comics.

    Also appearing at the Evansville Museum Geek Con is Rocko Jerome. Jerome is the Writer/Producer of the ongoing, art-forward comic book series called G.H.O.S.T. Agents. He also hosts a Rock & Roll radio show called The Deep-Dive on LRS102 most Saturdays and Sundays, noon-2:00 EST. He named and helped to save Lottie, the Louisville Triceratops, and describes himself as a “professionally affable storyteller.” Additional special guests appearing this year include Hollywood special effects creator Kent Estep, Marvel & Image comic book artist Todd Fox, the creator of Strawman Comics David Branstetter, writer/artist/editor and broadcaster Sean Dulaney, local wrestling star The lovely Miss Larkan, Pulitizer-nominated author T. Harriman, award-winning author Brian K. Morris, and dinosaur puppets from Feller Express.

    This year’s cosplay special guests include Batsu Adventures, Grimm Nox, Enchanted Redwoods, Krazy Kat Studios and the 501st Star Wars Legion: Bloodfin Garrison. Community special guests include Donate Life Indiana, Evansville-Vanderburgh Public Library, NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassadors Mandy Scurry & Gary Barr, National Youth Advocate Program, Alexandrian Public Library, the Greater Evansville Steampunk Society, and the League of Extraordinary Cinema.


    The event will feature a Vendor & Artist Hall, where guests may purchase items from local artists, authors, and businesses. Those attending this year include Comic Quest, Comics ina Flash!, Wibbly Wobbly Crafts, Author Stephen Harrick, Authors Molly Daniels and Kenzie
    Michaels, The Magics in the Mx, Wading Hawk Creations, Wading Hawk Creations, When Worlds Collide, Moonlight Fae Creations, and Blue Sail Art. Kim’s Chuck Wagon will be on-site for guests to purchase food and beverages throughout the day.
