KY 2084 interchange will be closing permanently
Two significant traffic changes are expected later this month as progress continues on Section 1 of the I-69 Ohio River Crossing. The three roundabouts at KY 351/2nd Street are expected to open in their final configuration, which means they will be open to two lanes of traffic. The KY 2084 interchange will be closing to traffic around the same time.
KY 2084 Interchange to Close
The KY 2084 northbound on-ramp to US 41 and the US 41 southbound off-ramp to KY 2084 are expected to close in mid-November, and these will be permanent closures. The KY 2084 and KY 351 interchanges are in too close of proximity to meet interstate standards.
Roundabouts Opening to Two Lanes of Traffic
The new roundabouts at KY 351/2nd Street are expected to open in their final configuration in mid-November. Two roundabouts opened in July and the third opened in September. All are in temporary configuration with a single lane of traffic using the outside lane.
“This has been a great opportunity for drivers in Henderson to get used to the roundabouts and adjust to the new traffic pattern, and they’ve done extremely well” said Emily Deason, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet project manager. “Moving to final configuration means that capacity will increase, and we should see traffic flowing even better along the corridor. It’s another step toward wrapping up work to reconstruct the KY 351 interchange.”
Crews will continue to work in the area through mid-2025 to complete final touches including permanent striping, landscaping, erecting flag poles, lighting and installing gateway signage for the City of Henderson.
Drivers: What to Know
Drivers need to remember a few key steps to prepare for using two-lane roundabouts:
- Drivers should get in the appropriate lane before entering the roundabout.
- They will use the right lane to go straight or right.
- They will use the left lane to go straight, left or make a U-turn.
Drivers should also allow larger vehicles, like school buses, large trucks and emergency vehicles, room to safely maneuver the roundabouts. As always, drivers approaching a roundabout should slow down and yield to traffic already in the roundabout.
