Indiana's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Deadline is Two Weeks Away

The state's deadline is April 15

The Indiana deadline for the Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) is rapidly approaching. The Indiana Commission for Higher Education (Commission) encourages all students to apply for student aid by April 15, 2025.

According to the Commission’s FAFSA completion dashboard, nearly 43 percent of Indiana seniors have filed their FAFSA through April 2. The Commission has set a 60 percent completion goal for the class of 2025. Last year, 51 percent of Hoosier seniors completed the form, ranking Indiana 27th in the country.

With over $400 million in state aid available to students each year, Indiana ranks third in the Midwest and ninth in the nation in awarding need-based financial aid.

“The FAFSA is key to unlocking postsecondary education for many Hoosier students,” Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education Chris Lowery said. “The data show that education and training beyond high school lead to improved economic and social outcomes for individuals. Those who continue their education earn higher wages, have better health outcomes, and have a longer life expectancy. I encourage all students to take advantage of the many resources we offer and file their FAFSA as soon as possible.”

Research shows there is a significant association between FAFSA completion and postsecondary enrollment. According to a 2019 study, FAFSA filers from the lowest socioeconomic quintile were 127 percent more likely to enroll in college in the fall following high school graduation.

The Commission’s Outreach Coordinators are available to assist students and families in the filing process. To send a direct message to your region’s Outreach Coordinator, visit www.learnmoreindiana.org/contact.
