Knight Township Advisory Board Member Wins Statewide Honor

This annual award is bestowed, not only based on successfully fulfilling the duties of office, but on the merit of going above and beyond – from what is expected to that which is exceptional.

Knight Township Advisory Board Member Don Boerner was awarded the Charles Bogden Memorial Township Board Member of the Year Award for 2024 tonight during the annual Indiana Township Association Educational Conference and Trade Show’s Award Dinner.  This annual award is bestowed, not only based on successfully fulfilling the duties of office, but on the merit of going above and beyond – from what is expected to that which is exceptional.  Don is a wonderful public servant who has admirably represented the interests of Township Government locally for over 30 years.  During his stewardship as Knight Township Chief Deputy followed by his continuing oversight and guidance as the Knight Township Board Internal Control Auditor, he has exemplified integrity and diligence to upholding the standards that the Indiana Township Association strives to maintain.

Don Boerner initially graced the Knight Township office in 1995 where he was appointed as Chief Deputy and during that time the office was recognized by the ITA for Township of the year in 2005, serving in this role until 2007.  Not long after that and due to the well documented turmoil within the offices of Knight Township, Don made it his mission to get elected as a member of the Knight Township Advisory Board so that he could continue to help provide the oversight that was desperately needed.  He was integral in helping to highlight the budget flaws and misappropriations that ultimately landed the previous Trustee in jail during 2010.  Additionally, in 2022, former Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke read accolade after accolade about Don during his Proclamation on February 1st of that year as “Don and Norm Day, to celebrate his accomplishments and service to our community.  Don is a public servant who is as humble as they come and is not the type to expect any notoriety for both his hard work and dedication to Knight Township.  When asked about this honor, Knight Township Trustee, Kathryn Martin stated that, “Don Boerner is the 2024 Board member of the year for his commitment to standing up for what is right during very trying times and that his continued leadership serves as affirmation that he exemplifies everything that the Indiana Township Association wishes to bestow upon future generations with such an honor!”  With the win tonight, Knight Township has won every available award presented annually by the Indiana Township Association at least one time!
