Traffic Switch Begins for Lloyd Expressway on West Side

Single Lane in Each Direction to Begin Saturday Morning

Lloyd4U construction reaches a milestone this weekend. Beginning on or after Saturday, September 21, crews will close the westbound lanes and shift westbound traffic to the south side of the facility. There will be one lane of traffic in each direction stretching from Barker Avenue to Posey County Line Road.

The traffic switch is expected to begin at 7 a.m. Delays are expected between 8 and 9 a.m. as crews shift traffic into the new configuration.

Westbound motorists will need to use caution as traffic crosses to the south side and reduces down to one lane. Follow the signs and pavement markings and observe the posted speed. The exit at University Parkway is marked and will remain open.

This traffic switch will make room for crews to construct the westbound side of the facility between Barker Avenue and Posey County Line Road. Improvements include pavement replacement, bridge reconstruction and intersection improvements. This new traffic configuration will be in place until the middle of 2025 when traffic will shift to the newly constructed side and work will begin on the eastbound side of the facility.

Drivers should use the Zipper Merge technique when entering the work zone. Use both lanes up to the merge point, and take turns merging into the single lane. Click here to learn more about zipper merges.
