Once the funding and renovations for the parsonage are complete, UCS expects to be ready for occupancy in late 2023, early 2024.
The Evansville community has over 350 individuals experiencing homelessness each year. United Caring Services (UCS) and its long-time partner, Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ (UCC), have collaborated to offer “Zion House,” a shared permanent supportive housing unit for 5 men in the Evansville community. Zion UCC sold their parsonage to UCS for $1 for UCS to convert the house into a shared housing unit for 5 men who are transitioning out of homelessness.
Shared housing is a more affordable, permanent supportive housing option for individuals who are ready to transition out of homelessness. Shared housing with intentional case management is something that has not been offered in the Evansville area until now. Zion House will offer each resident his own private bedroom with a shared kitchen, bathroom, and living areas. The Zion House programming will support each person with individual case management.
Once the funding and renovations for the parsonage are complete, UCS expects to be ready for occupancy in late 2023, early 2024. With this collaboration, Zion Evangelical UCC’s mission continues while UCS’s mission expands.
United Caring Services and Zion Evangelical UCC invite the news media and public to join us for the Passing of the Key Expansion Celebration on Friday, November 4 at 1:30 pm at the newly named Zion House at 416 NW 6th Street. Those attending will be invited to tour the parsonage, the church building, as well as United Caring Services’ main campus building.
