The YMCA of Southwestern Indiana has released an RFP seeking development proposals for its remaining building properties on the corner of Court and Sixth Street in Downtown Evansville.
The two adjoining properties offer a combined 59,200 square feet and include the former pool, lobby, and gymnasium.
The YMCA is considering all proposals and ideas through the RFP process. YMCA President and CEO, Johnathan Pope, says, “We developed a task force of volunteers, board members, and staff to vet potential opportunities for the remaining building to ensure that it continues to serve the community in a meaningful way.”
Leading the Task Force is Steve Schaefer who is Deputy Mayor of Evansville and a YMCA Board Member. Steve Schaefer stated, “The Y has gone above and beyond to find a reuse of that space. We are excited to see what ideas come from the RFP because that building is a vital piece to the continued growth and development of Downtown.”
Proposals to the RFP are due May 14th and can be submitted to Gina Moore at the YMCA. The YMCA built the Ascension St Vincent YMCA in 2019 just across Court Street from its former Downtown building. The back portion of the former building on 5th Street, known as the 1913 building, was sold to developer Jon Anderson, whose company AP Development LLC is currently renovating the space into affordable housing apartments.
